What can happen in civil court for illegally repossessing my vehicle?

I had sold my truck in 2008 for $12,500. they made payments through July of 2010, it was 300.00 per month, total to be paid off by the end of 2010. they call me and say that the parents are taking over payments and would be on time for the remainder $6 thousand and some change. well they would not sign a contract and they missed the due date for August 16th. they say they get paid on the 20th, i agree here the 20th no answer to text back. here comes the 21th and i pick up the truck and call again, no answer so i leave voicemail and text that i took it. now the 22nd i give them their stuff from the truck and they say i stole $6500 from his wife's purse, money that she didn't even know was in her purse, they called the cops and they said all they have me for is illegal repossession and its up to the judge about the "stolen" money. What am i looking at? they have sued other family before and not shown up either, they have a reputation. Thank you.
