Question

What can a consumer do about an illegal vehicle repossession that has now been charged off by the bank?

I had my vehicle repossessed in Wisconsin by Chase Bank.

According to the State Statutes, of the State of Wisconsin, they were "BY LAW", supposed to send me a "Right to Cure" letter/statement.

The letter was to include. . . .
Loan #
Amount of the Loan
Amount past due
Amount currently due (at the time of the letter)
Description of the vehicle (make/model/Color,etc)
Vehicle VIN#

Along with a statement making me aware, that as "My Rights" as a consumer, I could pursue the matter in a Court of Law, if I were opposed to them repossessing the vehicle.

Well, needless to say. . . . Chase Bank sent me nothing but a "Default Letter", which stated my account was past due, the amount past due and nothing more.

After they unexpectedly took my vehicle, I tried to work out an agreement with them and they pretty much made it impossible for me to get my vehicle back! If I couldnt pay them $800 for my "2" late payments, where the heck did they think I was going to come up with $3600?

Not to mention the "Dirty Comments and Harrassment" I had to put up with every time I spoke to them!

What are our rights as consumers?> How are consumers supposed to protect themelves?

So just because they're some huge conglomerate company, they are free of having to follow the law?

Its seems like it's always the small guys against the "LIARS AT THE BIG BANKS"!

Hi, seekritip, and welcome to WebAnswers.

Under Wisconsin law, Chase is subject to a $25 fine for not providing you the proper letter AND actual damages sustained by the consumer because of the violation.

You should contact Legal Aid for assistance in this matter, if you cannot afford to hire an attorney.

I hope this is helpful to you. Thank you for choosing WebAnswers as your sourceĀ™.
