I sold a car that has a lein on it, will i go to jail? Hi i bought a car at a pay here car lot, and some how i got the title in the mail with no lein showing on it, so times got hard so i sold it, now the car lot and thr repo man are telling me im going to jail for salling moraged property, is this true, i live in tn and bought the car in MS, they claim they have a new title for the car coming but i know its been retagged and in someone elses name, i know i did wrong but i hit hard times and i have three kids, i owe $3,000 on the car can they put me in jail, please help |

Have you asked them if they will work out a payment plan with you? I can't say for sure they will, but I am guessing they don't wan't to go through all the trouble of taking you to court. Bottom line, yes you do still owe the money and yes they can take you to court. Jail time is up to the judge, but if you show a good faith effort to work it out with the car lot, that could play in your favor. If you do nothing, it's just going to look like you were trying to pull a fast one on the car lot. Call and ask them to let you make payments. Good luck.
