Hello, I am in Colorado resident for 20 years, I have a 5 year auto loan on my nissan and I have made 4 years of payements with no problem until now

It is my fist month that I am late in making auto payment. In general, can Even missing one payment lead to repossession?

It will depend on the terms of your financial company. Some companies tend to be more strict than others. The first thing to to do is to inform the finance company that you may not be able to make the payment for the month. Some will hold off the repossession till the next payment due date. Communication with your lender is critical.

Also, although it may be late in your loan in your case, you may consider refinancing to reduce the payment per month. This may or may not help you depending on how tight your budget is.

Another option is to consider selling the vehicle to someone else and let them know they can take care of the rest of the loan. This can work if the value of your car is still high. This will depend on which car you purchased. Kelly Blue Book can offer a relatively accurate way to price the current value of your vehicle.

See if you can find another job to make the payments for you car. If all else fails and you are worried they will take your vehicle, make sure to park in a locked garage at your home address and to always have someone in the vehicle who can drive when you are doing errands. At work, you may want to park your vehicle a good distance away in another lot until you can find a way to make payments again.
